Yan’s scalp tingled with fear and she couldn’t care about anything anymore. She placed the box down, then turned around and ran.
She knew that holding onto the box would only burden her. Besides, these people obviously didn’t want to let her off and who knew what they would do to her in the room. Thus, she could only run.
As Yan headed toward the door, she noticed it was only closed shut, but not locked. Her heart jumped in delight.
As long as she sprinted quicker, she should face no problem after she left the room.
Although it would be rather troublesome for him, she could reach out for help from Lin Xuzheng if anything happened but knowing that she was not alone, these people might be a little more hesitant to do anything to her.
Nevertheless, reality always hit rock hard as compared to the bliss of the imagination.
She was caught even before making it to the door by the man with the cigarette. He grabbed Yan by the arm and pulled her back very forcefully.
“Ah! Let me go!” Yan screamed while trying her best to set herself free.
The men overlooking this whole scene couldn’t help but burst out laughing at the sight of such a childish act.
“There should be no men at the store except for her parents.”
“Hey little girl! Running the store by yourself with no one to help must be tough huh? Well, we are all at your service. Just pick any of us here, free of charge.”
All Yan wanted in that moment was to be free of her captor. She could barely hear what those dimwits were saying. Realizing she could not free herself from the man’s grasp, she resorted to biting his hand hard.
“Ahhh!” the man exclaimed in pain. He pushed hard to free his hand from Yan’s bite before slapping her hard on the head.
Boom!
Seeing that he was of a bigger build than the little girl, the force of his slap pushed her back a few steps.
“You are courting death! You ungrateful woman!”
Yan was so disorientated she could barely look at what was before her. Judging the direction from memory, she crawled forward to get back on her feet.
“You think you can just walk away after biting me?” the man snarled at her. Then, he grabbed her by her hair and pulled her back.
At once, Yan blanched and cried out for help.
On the other end.
“That b*stard! He must have known that I was on my way with you, so he fled long ago. I swear when I get my hands on him…”
Lin Xuzheng and two other men set out in search of the person, ready to detain him. Who would have known that by that time, they had long gone.
“My little brother has always been fearless. The whole family fears only one person, and that is you. We’re not sure where he got the news from. Xuzheng, I’m very sorry for the trouble, but would you please come with me ?”
Lin Xuzheng didn’t mind at all, so he shook his head. “Sure. I have nothing to do at the moment anyway.”
As soon as his cousin heard that, he was taken aback for a moment. Then, as though something had come to his mind, he let out a loud sigh and said, “You have got to let go of your past. You cannot keep holding onto it as it’s not going to bring you any good.”
Lin Xuzheng pressed his lips together as he felt his breath turn chilly as he exhaled.
It was obvious to his cousin that he was not a fan of the topic in conversation hence he shifted the focus of the conversation to something else.
“Alright, I won’t bring it up. Do what you want, and if we find no one, we’re going back.”
The two of them then took the elevator downstairs where they spotted the food delivery car outside. Upon seeing that, Lin Xuzheng’s cousin immediately asked, “Isn’t this the girl’s car? Hasn’t she returned from the food delivery she had gone to make?”
Upon hearing this, Lin Xuzheng froze in place.
“What do you mean?”
His cousin scratched the back of his head and said, “Didn’t you hear what she said just now? She said that she was just going to put the things down and head downstairs. She even refused my offer to help her with the box. It’s been quite some time since she left and there’s still no sign of her. Xuzheng, do you know her? What’s going on between you two?”
“She’s just the tenant of the noodle restaurant.”
“So she’s just a tenant. In that case, it shouldn’t bother you if something happens to her,” said the cousin.
Lin Xuzheng realized something was not right. His eyes narrowed as he stared at his cousin rather fiercely and said, “What do you mean?”
“Well, when she was delivering food I saw a man smoking a cigarette open the door. From my experience, that kind of man is not one to mess with. Ordering takeaway must just be an excuse as there is a variety of food choices available in the club. Hey! Where are you going?”
Before his cousin could finish his sentence, Lin Xuzheng stormed toward the elevator, his face rather pale. His cousin scurried after him as he said, “Isn’t she just a tenant? Why are you getting so worked up?”
As the elevator door closed, Lin Xuzheng glared at his cousin coldly. “Are you going to just leave her here to die?”
His cousin retaliated at once, “Nah, that’d be too much. But there are so many of them so let’s don’t do anything recklessly.”
In the room.
“From what I see, this girl is really good. Rocky has good taste this time around.”
“I told you to be gentle. She’s so pretty; do you want to get blamed for hurting her?”
The man lifted Yan up and threw her into Rocky’s arms. He quickly wrapped his arms around her tightly, as Yan struggled to escape. However, he held her tightly, and pushed her to the sofa before pinning her down with his legs.
“Don’t run; I’m not going to hurt you. I just wanna have a chat with you, so relax.”
They were so accustomed to meeting women who welcomed them with open arms in brothels or such, but a woman like Yan was one they had not come across before. She was rather young and feisty when she resisted, which excited them even more.
Yan glanced at the men in the room and shut her eyes in despair. Was she really going to be raped here today?
No, she did not want that.
Opening her eyes, she mustered up what little courage she had left and said, “You know what you’re doing is illegal right? You have no right to hold me here like this. Besides, I came here with a friend. When he realizes that I’ve been gone for too long, he is going to know something has happened to me and will go to the police immediately. When the police arrive, it’s over for all of you.”
Rocky stood flabbergasted for a moment; he didn’t expect her to have such a sharp mind and the courage to voice it out. The grin on his face grew wider. “Go ahead and call the police. There are so many people in this room; is your friend able to fight all of us? Will he be able to call the police in time?”
Hearing this, Yan understood what he meant. Obviously he was not afraid at all.
Bang! The door to the room was kicked open all of a sudden. Lin Xuzheng’s cousin was recording a video with his cell phone as he shouted, “Don’t move! I have already called the police!”
It was probably the element of surprise that caught everyone off guard when the door suddenly flung open. Soon after, one of them stood up.
“So you called the police, huh? That’s okay. You will be beaten to a pulp before they even get here.”
He started inching toward him when he was suddenly stopped by someone.
“Mr. Li, Mr. Li, that’s Lin Xuzheng.”
“Lin Xuzheng? Which Lin Xuzheng? What is it? What has it got to do with me?”
“He’s Lin Xuzheng from Lin Property Group.”
The person holding him back leaned toward him and whispered something in his ear. After hearing that, his expression changed drastically.
