Lin Xuzheng smiled. “Mrs. Zhou, there’s nothing wrong with him, and he is quite healthy. The only thing is, he keeps on prioritizing work over everything else, so he doesn’t have the time to date, and he eventually lost his interest toward women.”
As he finished his sentence, he paused suddenly.
Why was he bringing up only the person’s flaws and none of the good traits? At this rate, how was he, Lin Xuzheng, going to set someone up? Yan’s mother would probably mistake his intention as an act to humiliate her daughter.
As expected, when Lin Xuzheng lifted his head, he saw Luo Huimei’s eyes were filled with resentment.
But that was normal. Who could bear to see their own daughter suffer? His introduction alone made him sound unreliable.
“I am sorry. This friend of mine is very successful career-wise. It’s just that he isn’t very well-versed in relationship matters. He doesn’t have any bad habits—he doesn’t smoke, drink, nor gamble. The reason I chose to set them up is because I found Miss Zhou to be a fine young lady. I apologize if my proposal was too abrupt.”
After hearing his explanation, Luo Huimei was slightly relieved.
“It doesn’t really matter if he’s not well-versed in relationship matters. It’s just… our Yan is quite plain-looking. With his successful career, I believe he has met countless beauties. If he doesn’t have feelings for any of them, how…”
What she really meant was, he didn’t have feelings toward a swan, so was it possible for him to fall in love with an ugly duckling?
Yan, who was beside Luo Huimei, glared at her resentfully.
Am I really your biological daughter? What do you gain from always belittling me?
Lin Xuzheng was amused by their interaction. He recomposed himself and said, “When my wife first got together with me, she also often complained that I was surrounded by too many pretty women. Eventually, she became less concerned about it. After all, good looks can be found everywhere in this world, but it’s rare to find an interesting soul. What really matters is the resonance between two souls.”
However, after uttering these words, Lin Xuzheng didn’t receive any reply.
Luo Huimei merely blinked.
What he said was so deep and profound, but she could still comprehend what he meant. He probably meant that there were so many pretty women out there, but compatible personalities were the key that guaranteed a long lasting relationship.
“Perhaps, I could try asking him out next time, so you guys can meet.”
Yan couldn’t take it anymore, so she responded euphemistically, “Thank you for your kindness, Mr. Lin, but currently, my focus is on this restaurant, and I’m afraid that I won’t have the time to deal with anything else. I’m very sorry about that. My deepest apologies…”
She apologized twice to express her sincerity. After all, she hadn’t expected Lin Xuzheng to think of setting her up with someone. She wasn’t that interested in meeting someone new, as there was someone else in her heart.
So, before Yan could forget Han Qing, she would never go for matchmaking, nor be involved in a romantic relationship with anyone else.
Ever since she returned, there were countless people who tried to introduce her to potential suitors, but Yan rejected all of them, and because of that, she became a topic of gossip.
“It’s okay; since you don’t have the energy to do that now, you can let me know later if you have the time. After all, I don’t think he has any plans to get married within these two years. However…” Lin Xuzheng raised his eyebrows, trying to create suspense, “Who knows? I could be wrong. He might get married in a flash after finding his true love.”
However, Yan merely kept quiet.
Hearing his words, Yan started to think that there was something odd about Lin Xuzheng. Why did he choose to tell her about his friend? After all, he had nothing to do with her.
Then again, perhaps it was because they had good relations, so he just couldn’t resist bringing this person up. She decided not to put too much thought into it.
Hence, Yan just smiled at him without giving any reply.
Lin Xuzheng could sense that she was not that interested, so he stopped pushing. After staying for a while, he left.
With that, Yan was relieved.
When Luo Huimei saw that, she glanced at her. “I guess you are planning to stay single forever, you rascal.”
Upon hearing that, Yan shrugged helplessly and laughed. “There isn’t anything bad about staying single.”
Later in the afternoon, a customer suddenly asked Yan a question, “Madam, why don’t you have food delivery service? I tried to order from a food delivery app, but I couldn’t find your restaurant after searching for it. Sometimes, I get too tired after work and I don’t feel like getting out of the house, but I crave for the noodles in your shop. Can you provide food delivery service?”
Food delivery service?
Yan never thought of this before, because those delivery apps required a rather high handling fee. Not only that, the noodle would lose its taste if it was left out for too long, so Yan didn’t have any plan to put her business on such apps.
However, the customer in front of her was a regular in her restaurant. Thus, she could only reply, “I will consider providing food delivery service and make a business card when that happens. However, I will cancel the service if we are busy and short-handed.”
“No problem; as long as the service is available. It’s better than none!”
After that, Yan went back home and discussed it with Mr. and Mrs. Zhou, to which Mr. Zhou agreed instantly.
“Then we shall deliver the food, and collect delivery fees too. A man like me isn’t good at cooking anyway, but I am familiar with North City. I don’t mind running around, so I will do the delivery.”
“Dad.” Yan frowned. “You’re not that old, but you’re not young either. I would rather close my shop than let you run around the city delivering food all day.”
“What are you talking about? Are you looking down on me? Don’t you know that people get stronger as they grow older? What’s wrong with me helping my daughter’s business by doing the delivery? Yan, don’t worry and do what you want. Just leave the dirty work to me.”
As he said this, Mr. Zhou looked as though he was his daughter’s superhero, standing tall and strong. Tears started to form in Yan’s eyes when she heard him.
“Don’t worry, Yan. Keeping active will make his body healthier, so just let him do it.”
After the decision was made, Yan implemented the food delivery service in no time at all. She hired people to print business cards, then set up a delivery hotline and a WeChat account for the delivery service. After everything was done, she distributed a card to each customer and those who needed the service eventually came to her.
At first, Mr. Zhou personally did the delivery as there were not many orders. Later on, as the orders started to increase, Yan also began to deliver food as she did not want to burden her father.
On Sundays, Xiao Su would come over and help too.
After a period of time, Mr. and Mrs. Zhou started to grow fond of Xiao Su. Sometimes, Luo Huimei would tell her, “Xiao Su is not bad. I think you should consider him.”
Yan felt her head ache upon hearing this. Actually, she had told Xiao Su several times that he did not have to come over and help because she did not know how to return the favor. However, Xiao Su insisted that he did it because he wanted to, and she did not have to return any favor.
Yan wanted to pay him, but he refused to take the salary, so she asked him not to come anymore.
However, he still showed up every weekend without fail, and because of that, Yan found it stressful at times.
“Mom, stop bringing it up. It’s impossible between the two of us.”
“Why so? Are you still hung up about that guy who dumped you? What is so great about that guy that you still can’t forget him? Xiao Su is such a great guy with a good personality. You better not pass up something good in front of you just because you’re chasing something else.”
“What are you talking about? Love is all about fate; how could you talk about it like that?”
Han Qing came out the next day……
