It was not an issue to have some of these from time to time. Even if it was arsenic, it would be ignorant to only be concerned with its toxicity and not the dosage. As long as one did not eat too much of it and too often, having them for one or two meals would not be harmful. Even so, Ye Moxuan did not allow her to eat these things because they were not hygienic and contained preservatives.
After seeing that Han Muzi did not indeed have the appetite, one of the maids suggested that they could perhaps make it themselves at home as it would be more hygienic when they prepared it themselves. They would just have to put in some effort. In the end, Ye Moxuan nodded.
Just as Han Muzi was about to dig into the mini hotpot, it occurred to her that Little Bean was not back yet. When she decided to give Little Bean a call to ask him when he would be coming home, she saw a little figure come in from the entrance. “Little Bean?”
“Mommy!” Little Bean called on Han Muzi before going up to her to hug her.
“Why isn’t Aunt Yan with you?” Han Muzi glanced behind him.
“Mommy, Aunt Yan’s father got into a car accident and is now at the hospital. She needs to go there to send him food.”
Sitting there, Han Muzi was shocked by what she heard as if she had just received a heavy blow to the back of her head. “W-What are you talking about? Yan’s father got into a car accident? And he’s at the hospital?”
Little Bean nodded. All of a sudden, Han Muzi felt weak. She let go of Little Bean and stood there, seemingly getting ready to run outside.
“Mommy!” Now that it was only Little Bean and her in the house, when Little Bean saw that she was about to run out, he grabbed her. “Where are you going? Aunt Yan has already left, so even if you go there now, you won’t be able to meet her.”
Han Muzi stopped and tried to take a deep breath to calm herself down. She then asked, “So what’s the situation now? Little Bean, tell me everything you know.”
“Okay.”
After Little Bean told Han Muzi what he knew, she was relieved. Though she let out a sigh, she still felt sorry for Yan whenever she thought about what happened to her last time. At that time, Yan must have felt utterly miserable, but she refused to meet up with her. Since Han Muzi was Han Qing’s younger sister, she dared not show up whenever she wanted in front of Yan. She would only meet with Yan if the latter asked for it.
But now? After she heard that Yan received such saddening news about her father while she was already at her most vulnerable, Han Muzi, as her best friend, felt that she should have been there with her. How did she make it through this time?
Thinking about that put Han Muzi in pain and rendered her unable to utter a single word.
“Mommy?” After Little Bean noticed that Han Muzi did not look good, he quickly consoled her, “Mommy, please don’t think that Aunt Yan intentionally hid it from you. She feels that since you’re having a baby, telling you about what happened will only make you worry. That’s why she decided not to tell you. Also, Uncle Zhou is recovering well. So, Mommy, please don’t worry anymore.”
Han Muzi came back to her senses. That’s right, Uncle Zhou is fine now, and I shouldn’t worry anymore. I just feel sorry for Yan.
I’ve just been talking about what happened to Uncle Zhou, and look how sad Mommy is. There’s no way I’d be able to tell Mommy about how Aunt Yan and Uncle Qing met today and how that broke Aunt Yan’s heart.
Little Bean proceeded to help Han Muzi walk to the couch.
“I’m fine. Don’t worry. In the future, you can go and spend time with Aunt Yan on my behalf—will you do that for me?” Han Muzi felt good about that idea. At most, she could send Little Bean to a private school later on.
…
The next day, after Yan had finished cleaning the house and was about to pick Little Bean up, the bell rang. She opened the door and found Little Bean standing right in front of her.
“Good morning, Aunt Yan!” Little Bean tilted his head, letting out a naïve yet sweet smile.
Yan looked confused and glanced behind him. “H-How did you get here?”
“Mommy told me that it’s too tiring for you to go back and forth every day. So, starting tomorrow, the driver will be driving me, and you don’t have to come all the way to get me again.” As Little Bean finished, he added, “And the driver will be with us all day long. You can go anywhere you like.”
These words somewhat touched Yan, who was surprised by how attentive Muzi was. “Please help thank your mommy. That’s very thoughtful of her.”
“Hmph. If there’s anything you wanna say to Mommy, call her yourself!”
Yan chuckled. “Okay. I’ll give her a call later today.”
After the two had arrived at the hospital to bring food for Mr. Zhou, Mr. Zhou was overjoyed to see Little Bean, whom Luo Huimei was also fond of. Standing next to the couple, who was seen holding Little Bean’s hands while talking to him, Yan was annoyed and shook her head.
At this juncture, Yan’s phone rang, and she answered it. “Ah? Coming in today? Alright, alright. I’ll be there to open the door, and thank you for helping to send them over. Don’t worry, mister; I’ll compensate you for that. You guys have worked hard.”
Hanging up the phone, Yan stood up and commented, “The furniture I bought is here, so I’ll have to head to the restaurant now. Dad, Mom, please help look after Little Bean for a while.”
At this moment, Little Bean stood up and said, “Aunt Yan, let me go with you.”
“Go with me? But… I’ll be back very soon. Besides, the restaurant is not in operation yet. There’s nothing for you to see there.”
“Just go. Huimei, go with little President Ye and Yan. And please take good care of little President Ye. The hospital isn’t a good place, so I’ll just stay here by myself. We don’t need the kid to stay here and let him catch a virus.”
Yan did not respond. Couldn’t he have put it nicer… Even so, she knew he did not mean it that way. What he was trying to say was that the hospital was a place for patients to rest.
“Dad!” Yan shouted and frowned, feeling displeased.
Mr. Zhou could roughly figure out why his daughter was frowning. So, he quickly waved his hand. “Go, go, go. Go together. Come back only after you’re done for the day.”
Luo Huimei blinked and proceeded to stand up.
“We should all go. Your dad has been recovering well and can now get off the bed by himself. We’ll only be gone for a short while, and we can just ask the nurses to help keep an eye on him.”
Looking at how stubborn Mr. Zhou was, Yan nodded. Then, Yan brought Little Bean and Luo Huimei to leave the hospital together for the ramen restaurant. After they called it a day, Luo Huimei parted ways with Yan—she went back to the hospital while Yan brought Little Bean home to make dinner.
Yan’s initial plan was to send Little Bean home right away so that she could go back home and make dinner. But at this moment, Little Bean went to the trunk and took out a small duffel bag while winking at her.
