Standing outside the room, Han Muzi looked at the person lying inside through the glass. It was a different Meng Xueyou than the one she saw before. She had changed into the psychiatric patient uniform, and her body had been cleaned. Her pale skin could once again be seen. But there were a lot of scars on her pale skin. Scratch marks, burn scars, and all other kinds of wounds… Even though scabs had already been formed, these injuries were all over the place—on her neck, her wrist, and even her face. It was a truly terrifying sight.
Han Muzi felt that she could hardly breathe. At this moment, a gentle hand came and covered her eyes. “If you’re scared, stop looking.” It was Ye Moxuan, who was standing behind her and speaking gently.
Han Muzi was silent for a moment before pulling Ye Moxuan’s hands down and shaking her head gently. “I’m fine; I’m just a little shocked by how badly she’s injured.”
Perhaps Ye Moxuan was able to read between the lines, for he frowned slightly. “Are you not close with her?”
Han Muzi did not respond. Instead, she let out a gentle smile as her gaze was still on Meng Xueyou.
At this point, Meng Xueyou looked peaceful as she was unconscious. This reminded Han Muzi of the past when the two were still best friends. They would have sleepovers where they would lie next to each other. Han Muzi even remembered that she would always wake up earlier than Meng Xueyou. Meng Xueyou was cranky and would always kick her blanket away when asleep. As a result, every morning when Han Muzi got up, she would tuck her back into her blanket. The way she used to look when she was asleep was exactly how she looked right now. Everything was just like before.
The memories they had were always gloomy and bitter, and right now they were all coming back to Han Muzi, haunting and overwhelming her. As she continued to be deep in her thoughts, her chest started aching, and her eyes were somewhat teary.
“We used to be close. I’ve saved her life before, so she has been relying on me a lot thereafter, always telling me how indebted she is to me and how she would treat me well for the rest of my life. She even stood out and lent me a helping hand whenever I was in need. I thought… we would be best friends forever. At one point, we even talked about how whoever got married first would have the other be her bridesmaid. But who knew…” It was all a show.
She did not know if Meng Xueyou treated her well in the past because she felt indebted to her and ended up being her best friend, or because she found out her secret and wanted to get close to her to get more benefits. No matter what the reason was, all the moments they spent together were still burning in her chest like wildfire.
“You don’t remember her anymore, do you?” All of a sudden, Han Muzi turned around and looked at Ye Moxuan. “You knew her before. Maybe if you take a good look at her face, you might regain some memory.”
Ye Moxuan was not planning on finding out how the woman lying inside looked like until he heard what Han Muzi said. He then turned over and looked toward Meng Xueyou. In the beginning, he did not feel anything particular about her appearance. He also had no recollection of her. But after a while, a few scenes came up in his head.
Han Muzi was there in those scenes, but… they were not good scenes. The woman in the scene had a pair of pink earrings, and at the same time, he also took out a similar pair of earrings. When Han Muzi saw that, she was agitated and proceeded to smash the pair of earrings that he took out. There was never a time before like right now where the scene was crystal clear. But this time, it was about how he hurt Han Muzi, and this gave him a jolt of pain. However, before he could experience this, he began to develop an immense headache.
“Did you recall something?” Han Muzi asked.
Ye Moxuan came back to his senses and rested his gaze on Han Muzi once again. She was looking at him with utter worry and concern. Gradually, her look overlapped with her painful look in the scene that he recalled earlier. He did not respond; instead, he kept staring at Han Muzi with his dark and deep eyes which somewhat frightened her.
Han Muzi did not consider much when she asked Ye Moxuan to take a look at Meng Xueyou. Since he was already here, and Meng Xueyou used to play a substantial part in both of their lives, letting him have a look at her might help him. She did not foresee such a big reaction from him.
At this juncture, Han Muzi nervously grabbed him by his hand. “Are you okay? Did you recall something?”
Standing next to them, Xiao Su sensed that something was not right. So, he went up and helped Han Muzi to steady Ye Moxuan. “Young Master Ye, are you okay? Should we head outside first?”
Han Muzi nodded in agreement. “Sure. Please do.”
The moment she was about to take a step forward, Ye Moxuan locked her arms. “I’m fine.”
“Fine?” Han Muzi did not stop being worried because Ye Moxuan did not look fine at all. She looked him in the eye. “Did you recall something?” How can Meng Xueyou have such a big impact? Is it because of all the horrible things that she did before?
For reasons unbeknownst to her, Han Muzi felt bitter about it. As much as she knew that Ye Moxuan only liked her, it still bothered her that Ye Moxuan had such a big reaction after seeing Meng Xueyou. She knew well where this bitter feeling came from. But at this moment, she did not have the energy to care about it.
“Some of it,” Ye Moxuan responded in a deep voice. His grip became stronger as he continued to frown, and the look in his eyes seemed to suggest that he was in pain. This was evident from the look on his face and the sweat on his forehead. Somehow, he did not have any other over-reactions and was still able to tell her that he had recalled something. Perhaps… he did indeed recall something.
“Did you… recall some bad memories?” Han Muzi asked.
Ye Moxuan kept quiet for a moment before nodding his head. All of sudden, Han Muzi could not utter a word. She took a deep breath, looked around, and found a bench not too far away from them. Then, she turned around and commented, “Let’s go and have a seat over there.”
Ye Moxuan considered for a brief moment and nodded. “Okay.”
After Ye Moxuan recalled those moments, his headache gradually wore off. He quietly walked with Han Muzi. After they were seated, a medical team member at the psychiatric hospital saw them and asked curiously, “Are you guys okay? Is there anything I can help with?”
Xiao Su quickly responded, “That’s fine. Thank you.” He broke into a cold sweat as he finished speaking. We’re all perfectly normal. Why would we need help from the medical team members at a psychiatric hospital?
After they sat down, Han Muzi took out a napkin from her bag and wiped off the thin layer of sweat from Ye Moxuan’s forehead and his nose. At this moment, he grabbed her by her hand. All of a sudden, he implored, “Don’t be mad.”
Han Muzi was stunned for a moment. “Huh?”
Ye Moxuan moved his lips for a while before he continued, “I have nothing to do with her.”
