Chapter 5705
Harvey instinctively looked at Billie, and saw her excited expression. He was completely speechless.
‘Aren’t you a little too confident? Do you really think I’m actually interested in you?’
Despite that, Harvey was moved to see Harlan trying to save him despite the latter’s family in uproar.
He smiled at Harlan and began to speak, completely ignoring Whitley in the process.
“Thank you for this, Uncle Harlan.
“Don’t worry. I’m not interested in Billie. The arranged marriage was just a blank promise, anyway. No need to put that to heart.
“As for this mess, I can deal with it myself.”
Harlan froze, filled with disbelief.
Whitley was shocked at first, but then her face turned cold. She was certain Harvey was either playing dumb, or trying to bait sympathy.
“Did you hear that? You came all the way here to save him,” she snarled, scoffing, “but what happened? He doesn’t even care about you! What are you still staying here for? Are you that sentimental?”
Whitley dragged Harlan out of the room by his ear, ignoring his objections.
Only Harvey and Billie were left in the room.
“You think I don’t know what you’re planning?” she said with a disdainful glare.
“You must be waiting for that old hag to come save you!
“It doesn’t matter if you could get out of here or not…but how dare you be that hag’s kept man despite having limbs to do the work yourself!
“I’m disappointed in you!”
With that, Billie raised her head high and walked out of the room arrogantly.
Soon after, a few people arrived.
Billie’s good friend, Judith, was here. There were two people behind her; they were probably her parents, who had come here against their will.
Judith’s eyes twitched instinctively after seeing Billie.
“Billie! I got word that Harvey was arrested,” she said, after quickly making her way to Billie. “What’s going on?”
None of them had a clue as to what happened on the third floor of the auction… Yet, word about Harvey getting arrested still managed to spread.
Before Billie could reply, Whitley spoke, her face filled with scorn.
“He thinks he can do whatever he wants just because he has our support.
“And yet, look what happened! He’s nothing but a worm to prominent figures, anyway. Not only did he go against someone he’s not supposed to, but he even rejected my husband’s help!
“How dare an outsider treat himself like a hotshot after coming here to seek our support?
“You have an ordinary family, Mrs. Pedler. I suggest you not get involved.”
Harlan frowned.
“It’s only normal for young people like him to act a little prideful. There’s no need to hold grudges against him like that, right?” he said.
“No?” Whitley scoffed. “People should admit to their wrongdoings! If they don’t, they’ll only repeat the same mistakes. Nobody can save them after that.”
