Harvey thought about the situation for a moment, and was reminded of something.
Though he was Longmen’s young master, he hadn’t been in Longmen for long. He hadn’t even seen the heads of the Eight Inner and Outer Walls, let alone all thirty-six branch leaders.
He remembered that because of the outskirts’ folk customs, and the fact that it was far away from the mainland, the strength of the branch here was quite restricted.
Even so, the weakest branch still represented one of the four cornerstones. Who would dare challenge Longmen like this without fear?
“Tell me about this,” Harvey said.
Ernie chuckled bitterly.
“Because of his body, the branch leader has been hiding in the Vertigo Mountaintop Villa away from the outskirts.
“In the past two years, his daughter, Kali Howell, has been taking control.
“She’s quite popular in the outskirts’ branch. With her discreet methods, nobody had caused us trouble for a long time.
“But a few days ago, a disciple of one of Mr. Howell’s subordinates came. After coming to the outskirts, he immediately challenged eighteen of Longmen’s Budokans.
“Mr. Howell’s trusted subordinates were all taken down! Most of them were even crippled!”
Ernie was filled with rage.
“At the end of the day, this is still Longmen’s business. If you can’t deal with this, then you should just report this to headquarters. Why did you ask me here?” Harvey said.
His expression was calm.
It was only natural for him to deal with Longmen’s business. But since this was a battle of the throne, it’d be inconvenient for him to get involved, since he was the young master.
After all, the strong had the right to rule. This was Longmen’s rule.
If Mr. Howell didn’t have the strength to take control of the outskirts’ branch, it’d only be natural for someone else to take his place.
Ernie sighed.
“There’s something you don’t know! Things aren’t that simple.
“When the branch leaders fight for the throne, the higher-ups will do nothing. That’s the rule.
“But, that man who challenged us had stayed in America for a long time. He is connected to a financial group there.
“Once he takes control, the Americans will probably gain full control over the outskirts’ branch. We need to stop this from happening at all costs!”
“The Americans?” Harvey was curious. “If that’s the case, isn’t headquarters going to step in?”
Ernie shook his head.
“We don’t have proof for this. We might be sued for throwing out accusations like that.
“Besides, Ms. Kali is a prideful woman. She’d do everything in her power to protect the job her father gave her. That’s why…”
Ernie kept shaking his head.
Harvey could tell that Ernie was still a righteous man, despite being a rich playboy. If not, he wouldn’t be so weary over someone else’s business.
