Mandy froze. “Talk? About what?”
“Talk about what?” The man intentionally froze, then screamed to the crowd.
“Listen to this! What’s this tone?
“While working for the company, my dad got into an accident and was brought into the emergency room!
“We’re here talking to her about compensation, but she’s acting all oblivious about it!
“Are us workers just ants to you capitalists? Are our lives worth nothing to you?
“Don’t we not get a chance to speak after hurting ourselves for your sake?
“Aren’t you even going to talk to us? Are we not human to you?
“We’ll call the cops on you for this! We’ll get the government involved, too!
“We want your entire company bankrupt!”
The patients and their families standing not far away glanced at Mandy and the rest, curious. Some people got an idea about the situation, and started gossiping up a storm.
Someone even took out their phones to take pictures. After all, the big fuss would no doubt turn into big news.
Harvey frowned at the people who were causing the biggest ruckus, and silently sent a text on his phone.
Mandy realized that the company would be negatively affected if things kept escalating like this. She had no choice but to swallow her anger before speaking up.
“Fine. We’ll talk if that’s what you want.
“That said, you should understand the situation as well. Your father was hurt because of the assembly line, but the company has already paid for his medical insurance according to the procedures.
“Insurance will properly compensate the medical fees and other expenses.
“According to the company’s procedures, we’ll also give your father fifteen thousand dollars worth of pension. I’ll personally give another fifteen thousand out of my own pocket.
“Consider this our sincerity.
“When your father’s out of the hospital, we’ll hire him again if he’s willing to come back. We’ll arrange a safer position for him to work in as well.
“We hope that you see what we’re doing here.”
Mandy had already written a check, and gave it to the man.
The crowd nodded when they saw it. They were starting to view Mandy in a different light.
For most ordinary families, thirty thousand dollars was an astronomical number. To give this much money as compensation was enough to prove her decisiveness and resolution.
Maya and the other higher-ups sighed in relief. They were certain the family members would stop causing trouble with the money.
As for the slaps they’ve received, they could only consider themselves unlucky.

“Thirty thousand? Are you trying to chase us off with just this?
