He was in utter shock right then while his heart was feeling heavy from the guilt. After all, he felt that he’d caused his sister to suffer too much. He didn’t even dare to think how desperate it had been for her to think of such a way to earn money, as well as how much pain she had to bear when she was separated from her own child.
At the thought of this, Timothy, who had been sitting upright, drooped his shoulders at once. “No wonder Tess always seemed distracted when she first came back. Every time she saw an adorable child, she would stare at the kid without moving an inch. This was why… This was why…” As he said that, his eyes reddened while a lump formed in his throat. He covered his face sorrowfully and felt that he owed Tessa so much that he wouldn’t be able to return everything in this life.
When Nicholas saw this, he didn’t disturb Timothy. He just remained silent on the side and waited for Timothy to calm down.
Only after a while did Timothy calm down slightly. He looked at Nicholas with complicated thoughts in his mind and he couldn’t help but overthink. “Well, are you together with Tess because she’s Gregory’s mother?”
“Of course not. I was unaware of this in the beginning, but after some events and noticing how Gregory treated your sister so differently, I only found out later that she’s actually Gregory’s mother.”
Nicholas knew what was bothering Timothy, so he said bluntly, “I’m together with your sister because I love her.”
Timothy was momentarily stunned by Nicholas’ seriousness, and he couldn’t help but laugh. Indeed, based on Nicholas’ personality, no one could force him to be with Tessa if he didn’t love her. “My apologies. I’m overthinking it.”
“It’s okay.” Nicholas didn’t take it to heart as it was normal for Timothy to have this thought after everything he heard.
At this moment, Timothy didn’t know what to say anymore. So, he grabbed the cup on the table and took a sip of water to get over the shock. After some time, he asked, “Are you… not going to tell Tess about this?”
“It’s not the right time yet.” Nicholas shook his head and explained with a serious look, “If she knows about this, she won’t be able to pursue her dream at ease like now. Also, I’m telling you this to let you know that I won’t restrict your sister just because of the child’s presence. She has a dream, and I’ll fully support her to help her achieve it. As for the family, I can take care of the child. It doesn’t have to be your sister.”
After hearing that, it would be a lie if Timothy said that he wasn’t touched. After all, there were only a handful of men like Nicholas who’d choose to take care of the family themselves and let their wife pursue her dream.
Despite knowing that Gregory was Tessa’s child, Nicholas didn’t expose the truth and merely allowed Tessa to pursue her dream abroad. This showed that he really loved her and that he only wished for her to get what she wanted.
Just like what Nicholas said, if Tessa knew about this, she probably wouldn’t be able to casually head overseas like now.
Timothy gradually accepted the fact that Gregory was Tessa’s son. At the same time, his impression of Nicholas boosted sharply. “Thank you for accepting my sister.” He looked at Nicholas, evidently touched.
Since he knew what Timothy was thinking, Nicholas said with a mere smile, “It’s nothing. I’ve always supported her dreams, and I would like to see her confidently glowing on stage too.”
When Timothy heard that, he suddenly felt that it was so lucky of Tessa to have met a man like Nicholas. After all, an ordinary man wouldn’t be able to do what Nicholas did.
After that, he asked Nicholas about his future plans. “Now that Tess is pregnant, will you marry her soon?”
