“They stay abroad most of the time. I expect them to have kept a lot of secrets,” said Edward. Despite that being the company secret, he thought Tessa had the right to know. “These guys have been doing their own business in private using the company’s money.
But this time, their activities have affected the whole ledger. They tried to cover their *ss, but the president won’t stand for it.” He sighed. “He’s going to have to deal with a lot of stuff.”
Tessa felt for Nicholas, and she was angry at those who sabotaged his company. Edward added, “That’s not the worst part. When Old Master Sawyer’s brothers come back, it’s going to get a lot worse.”
“Why?” Tessa looked at him curiously. She knew Remus had two brothers, but she didn’t know a lot about them. For one, Tessa had never seen them, and two, Nicholas barely. brought them up.
Edward stayed silent for a moment, then he said, “They’re enemies of Master Nicholas. They’ve been trying to trip him up all these years.”
Tessa felt even more for Nicholas. He’s been so busy he forgot to eat, and now you’re telling me something worse is coming? “Edward, keep an eye on Nicholas. Tell him to catch a break from time to time and make sure he doesn’t forget to eat.”
“Of course, Mistress. That is part of my job. I’ll be sure he rests.” Edward nodded.
Tessa returned to Dynasty Gardens after that. She still looked a little upset when she entered the house. Stefania was in the lounge, playing with Gordon. When she heard Tessa coming in, she smiled. “You’re back.”
Tessa nodded and handed the lunch box to Andrew, then she sat down with Stefania. The sight of Gordon, who was in Stefania’s arms, made her smile.
“Did Greg and Gordon trouble you?” “Oh no. They were fine. Greg even made some milk for Gordon.” Stefania happily shared what the kids did, and their stories wiped Tessa’s frustration away.
Then, Stefania asked, “So, was Nicholas busy?” “Very,” said Tessa. She wondered if she should talk about the account problem as well as the coming of Remus’ brothers with Stefania.
Noticing her hesitation, Stefania asked, “What’s wrong? You seem down.” “Um, Nicholas flew into a rage earlier, Tessa told her what she saw at the company.
Stefania wasn’t surprised. She sighed, resignation filling her voice. “It happens every year, and Nicholas is tormented by it. Please, take care of him.” Stefania held Tessa’s hand solemnly.
Tessa nodded. Nicholas came back that night, but it was already late. Tessa was asleep, but still, she was woken up. She was surprised to see Nicholas changing in the room. “Nicholas?”
Nicholas looked at his groggy wife. She must’ve been worried. He went and kissed her lips. “Sorry I woke you up.”
“It’s all right. I wasn’t sleeping that deeply. anyway.” Tessa shook her head and got out of bed to take Nicholas’ shirt off. She couldn’t help but say, “I told you that you could stay the night at your office. I could have just brought you breakfast tomorrow.”
