After the Divorce: Crushed on My Lawyer Ex-wife Chapter 149

#149 “Kyle Broke Up with Me.”

Sophia hadn’t stopped smiling all morning. Even then, in her office, while sipping her morning coffee, she had still been overjoyed. While she had looked at documents for another case, her phone had rung.

Sophia picked up and greeted her best friend.

“Good morning, Evelyn,” Sophia chirped.

“It’s not very good,” replied Evelyn from the other end of the line.

Sophia heard her friend’s voice and felt the distress. “What happened, dear?” Sophia asked gently.

“Kyle broke up with me,” replied Evelyn with a sniff.

Sophia’s eyes widened in surprise. ” Why?”

“The pretext is that I dug too much into his private life. The thing is, I was so hopelessly in love with him, and I didn’t understand how that was possible.”

Sophia frowned sympathetically, imagining the pain her friend must have been going through. “Were you able to discuss it?”

“I can’t contact him. His phone was off; he didn’t respond to texts, emails, or anything. I don’t understand, Sophia. I can’t believe that’s reason enough to break up. I thought we had a future.”

Sophia leaned against her desk, her mind racing with concern for Evelyn. ”

I’m so sorry, Evelyn. Breakups are never easy, especially when they’re so sudden. Maybe he was just overwhelmed and needed some time. Have you tried giving him a bit of space?

“I don’t know, Sophia. Everything happened so fast. I feel like I’ve been left with no closure. I just want to talk to him and understand.”

Sophia nodded, even though Evelyn couldn’t see it. “I get that, Evelyn. Give him some time, and when you feel it’s right, maybe you can try reaching out again. It’s important to communicate openly and understand each other’s perspectives.”

“I know, but it hurts so much. I thought he was the one, you know? Sophia, what if he’s gone for good?”

Sophia took a deep breath, wanting to provide comfort. “It’s too soon to say, Evelyn. People go through different phases, and sometimes, they just need time to sort things out. Focus on yourself for now, and we’ll get through this together, okay?”

Evelyn sniffled on the other end.

“Thanks, Sophia. I don’t know what I would do without you.”

“I suggest you come to my place tonight. You don’t have to be alone. We’ll make cocktails and watch a movie or whatever you decide,” offered Sophia.

“”That sounds great,” Evelyn replied. ” Thank you, Sophie.”

“For nothing. I’ll call you when I get

home from work to pick you up,” Sophia said.

“I’ll wait,” Evelyn replied.

The conversation broke off, and Sophia was completely taken aback. She had no idea that things would turn out like this. From what Evelyn had told her, Kyle was a good guy. So the sudden break in the relationship left Sophia confused.

Sophia set to work. Tonight, she would discuss with Evelyn why their relationship had failed. The uncertainty of the situation gnawed at her, but she was determined to support her friend and find some answers to the abrupt end of Evelyn’s relationship.

At noon, Sophia arrived at the restaurant where she and Alexander had agreed to have lunch together. He was already there, and as soon as he saw her, he immediately pulled her into a kiss.

“Hello to you too,” Sophia smiled.

“I can tell you that you’ve been inhabiting my thoughts all day. I hardly got any work done,” Alexander said as they both took their seats at the table.

“I’ve been told that I have such an effect on people,” Sophia laughed.

“Do you have plans for tonight?” Alexander asked as he looked at the menu. “I was thinking about the cinema and…”

“Actually, I do.”

“Oh!” Alexander raised an eyebrow.

Sophia sighed, “Evelyn and Kyle broke up. It’s been really tough on her. He ended things, citing that she was too involved in his private life. The thing is, Evelyn is devastated, and she can’t understand why this would be a reason to end their relationship. She’s been trying to reach out to him, but he’s not responding to any form of communication.”

Alexander listened attentively, a thoughtful expression on his face. ” That’s tough. Breakups are never easy, and the lack of closure makes it even harder.”

Sophia nodded, “Exactly. I’ve invited her to join me tonight, just to take her mind off things and be there for her. I hope you don’t mind.”

Alexander smiled warmly, “Of course not. It’s important to support friends during tough times.”

Sophia’s eyes reflected gratitude, ” Thank you, Alexander. We can go out tomorrow,”

“Actually, how about a vacation?”

Alexander asked. ” I can’t think of anything but you anyway. Why don’t we go somewhere just me and you? Let’s say in a week?”

Sophia’s eyes widened in surprise at Alexander’s suggestion. A vacation sounded tempting.

“A vacation?” she echoed, a smile playing on her lips. “That sounds… incredible, Alexander. Just you and me?

Where do you have in mind?”

Alexander leaned back, a glint of excitement in his eyes. “I was thinking of a quiet beach resort, away from the hustle and bustle. Somewhere we can unwind, enjoy each other’s company, and forget about the world for a while. What do you think?”

Sophia’s heart raced at the idea. “I think that sounds perfect. A week from now? I’m in.”

Alexander grinned, “Great! It’s a plan, then.”

After lunch, Alexander returned to the office, determined to make progress on pending tasks. Spotting Laura, he halted her with a quick gesture.

“Laura, book that resort we discussed earlier. She agreed,” Alexander said, a pleased smile gracing his face.

“Of course,” Laura nodded professionally. “You also have a visitor in the office.”

Acknowledging the information, Alexander nodded his appreciation and made his way to his office. Upon entering, he found Kyle patiently waiting, suitcases neatly arranged around him.
