After the Divorce: Crushed on My Lawyer Ex-wife Chapter 143

#143 “Productivity or Hiding Something?”

At the Enlighten Press office, the atmosphere was tense, and Megan fidgeted in her chair. She had been anxiously waiting for Alexander since the moment she hung up the call with him.

His bland tone over the phone had left her unable to decipher his mood. A mix of worry and frustration clouded her expression as she tapped her fingernails impatiently on the polished desk.

Peering through the large windows of the office, Megan kept a keen eye on the bustling city below, her mind racing with thoughts of what might have happened in Las Vegas.

She had done her homework, knowing that Alexander’s private jet had taken off for the notorious city. The fact that he was on his way there fueled her unease. Something was definitely wrong, and Megan’s anxiety escalated.

Megan saw earlier the photo of Alexander with Sophia. That’s when she understood the need to act swiftly to regain control over the situation, especially Alexander.

What confuses her the most is that Alexander hadn’t reciprocated her enthusiasm for the pregnancy, Megan’s wariness and nervousness deepened. The stakes were high, and the game had shifted.

As her secretary announced Alexander’s arrival, Megan hastily instructed her to usher him into her office. However, what Megan hadn’t anticipated was Sophia walking in alongside him.

A veil of shock momentarily masked Megan’s features as she stood up abruptly from her chair. Swiftly composing herself, she put on a façade of warmth and walked towards Alexander with open arms, a rehearsed smile attempting to conceal the turmoil beneath.

As they closed the distance, Megan forced a smile and chirped, “Alex, darling! I’ve been waiting for you.” She extended an overly enthusiastic hug, but her eyes darted nervously between Alexander and Sophia.

Sophia, standing beside Alexander, remained composed, her gaze piercing through Megan with a cold detachment.

“I didn’t expect we’d have company,” Megan says, her tone tinged with surprise and a hint of annoyance.

“Hello, Megan,” Sophia says with a dangerous smile, her gaze unwavering.

“Sophia, what brings you to my office? We need to have a private conversation with Alexander,” Megan said, attempting to regain control of the situation.

“Actually, I need Sophia for this conversation,” Alexander interjects, his calm demeanor seemingly amplifying Megan’s frustration.

“Oh, you told her?” Megan was indignant. “Alex, honey, you know that pregnancy is kept a secret for the first three months from outsiders,” Megan says, her attempt at manipulation laced with sweetness.

Sophia doesn’t bat an eye at being labeled an “outsider,” but what aggravates her is Megan’s audacity in putting her hand on her stomach.

The office, adorned with polished furniture and muted tones, served as the battleground for the impending confrontation. Alexander, displaying a calculated approach, sidestepped the direct confrontation, engaging in seemingly casual small talk.

“You’ve done some redecorating since the last time I was here. The office looks different,” Alexander remarked, his eyes scanning the room as if searching for hidden secrets.

Megan, unnerved by the indirect probing, responded with a nervous laugh, “Yes, well, a change of scenery is good for productivity.”

Alexander’s smirk deepened, ” Productivity or hiding something?”

The exchange set the stage for a verbal chess match. Megan’s emotions, initially veiled behind a veneer of confidence, began to unravel as Alexander skillfully wove through unrelated matters.

“What are you implying, Alexander?” Megan asked, wearing a confused expression, attempting to deflect the mounting tension.

Alexander’s smile remained calm and measured as he responded, “Oh, I found some pretty interesting things about your company, Megan. We were about to collaborate, and I don’t like to get involved without knowing the other side well.”

The room hung in a pregnant silence, each word laden with unspoken implications. Megan, feeling the weight of Alexander’s scrutiny, began picking at her nails, her eyes locked onto his.

“Honey, something is clearly troubling you. Whatever you found, I’m sure I have a good explanation for it,” Megan replied, attempting to maintain an air of nonchalance. However, the encroaching panic was evident in her voice.

Alexander, not one to rush revelations, allowed the statement to linger, waiting to see if Megan would confess or if she would be the last to unravel.

“How about this?” Alexander said, breaking the silence and pulling out documents on the desk. “There are reports here that reporters were forced to create fake news. And all these orders issued by the company were signed by you.”

Megan’s attempt at dismissing the allegations came swiftly, “This is ridiculous! Someone must have tampered with the documents.”

“Really, Megan? They look very real to me, even though they were found in your office,” countered Alexander, his tone unwavering.

The room crackled with tension as Megan sought a counterargument, ” How can you be sure?”

“Oh, I’m sure. My informants are very good, Megan. Make no doubt about that,” Alexander asserted, his gaze steady and unyielding.

The revelation marked a turning point, as the confrontation shifted from casual banter to the unveiling of damning evidence. The air in the room thickened, and Megan’s attempts to deflect were met with a resolute determination from Alexander to expose the truth.

“Also Megan, I want to talk about London. Do you have something to tell me?”

Alexander smiles slowly and smugly at the look on Megan’s face at this moment.
