Chapter 3929 Sneaking A Peek
Jared’s gaze appeared vacant, as though under some form of control. He spoke slowly. “My name is Axel Chadwick. I’ve long admired Violet Flame Sect and wished to become one of its disciples. That’s why I chose to serve under Mr. Barclay, hoping to become an inner disciple of Violet Flame Sect.”
Jared lavished praise on Violet Flame Sect, which greatly delighted the old man. Then, with a wave of his hand, the old man said, “That’s enough…”
Swiftly, the mist before Jared dissipated, revealing Carla and her companions once again in front of Jared. Jared noticed that the others were standing around in a daze as if the assessment was not yet complete.
“I once sneaked a peek at Carla bathing, and even dreamt about sleeping beside her at night.”
“I’ve killed people outside, been hunted myself, which is why I ended up joining Violet Flame Sect.”
Upon hearing the robotic-like words of the disciples from Violet Flame Sect, Jared was utterly taken aback.
Clearly, these people had their minds manipulated, spilling all their secrets.
Luckily, Jared had seen through it all long ago. This minor illusion array had no power over him. Otherwise, he probably would have spilt all sorts of secrets.
“I was quite taken with the new junior who just arrived. He’s incredibly wealthy, and I have a thing for rich people.”
At that moment, the sound of Carla’s voice was heard.
After hearing this, Jared was left speechless. Carla had just met him and was already dazzled by his affluent status.
Had Carla not been captivated, Jared might not have been able to hear her inner thoughts.
As the assessment came to a close, people gradually began to regain their senses. Observing this, Jared quickly pretended to still be under control.
He couldn’t let anyone know that he had overheard all of these people’s secrets.
Only after everyone else was fully awake did Jared feign to wake himself up.
“Axel, are you all right?” Upon noticing that Jared had awakened, Carla asked.
“I’m not entirely sure, but it seems I’m okay,” Jared stated.
“Don’t worry,” Carla reassured. “As long as one’s intentions are pure, and they haven’t committed any wrongdoings, getting through the first hurdle is usually a breeze.”
As soon as Carla finished speaking, a sudden beam of light unexpectedly illuminated a cultivator.
Immediately after, the monk let out a horrific scream, and in an instant, he was nowhere to be seen.
Jared glanced over, recognizing him as the same guy who had peeped at Carla while she was bathing, even dreaming about sleeping with her at night.
Only this one person was eliminated.
“How did he get eliminated in the first round? What on earth did this guy do?”
“Who knows, really? All I know is that he was always acting suspiciously, constantly
making trips to the bathhouse every day.”
“Did he sneak peaks at people while they’re bathing?” the other cultivators teasingly said.
After hearing this, Carla furrowed her brows, saying, “Everyone, just keep quiet. No more nonsense.”
Jared simply chuckled, not uttering a word.
Because he knew, this guy was eliminated due to peeping on Carla while she was bathing.
Quickly, another gateway of light appeared. Everyone knew that passing through this light would lead them to their second challenge.
“Axel, be extra careful behind!” Carla said to Jared.
“Okay, Carla.” Jared nodded.
“Follow me closely. I’ll lead you. This test is all about your ability to withstand pressure. There’s an incredibly intense force here, and we need to reach the end before it overcomes us. Remember, the faster the better, so you can endure less pressure!”
Carla spoke, immediately pulling up Jared’s hand.
Clearly, she was trying to get close to Jared.
“Carla, if the pressure here is intense, the faster we go, the more pressure we’ll face. Given one’s own speed, coupled with that pressure, it would only make things even more difficult.”
Jared didn’t quite agree with Carla’s point of view, so he retorted.
