Ilias’s sudden betrayal caught Oscar completely off guard.
Ilias had been pushing for the Summers family to join the Demon Seal Alliance solely to gain their assistance in destroying the arcane array around the Holy Pond.
Now that the arcane array was gone, the Summers family seemed to lose its significance to Ilias.
There was no need for pretense anymore. Considering the Summers family’s strength, they couldn’t compete with the Henningsen family.
Furthermore, with the Summers family now part of the Demon Seal Alliance and having handed over their magecraft secret scrolls, Ilias was confident they wouldn’t dare to go back on their word.
“You…” Oscar was visibly shaken by Ilias’s sudden change of attitude.
“Ilias, don’t push it too far. Our family can certainly reconsider our agreement and choose not to join the Demon Seal Alliance.”
“Do you dare?” Ilias sneered. “Your family’s magecraft secret scrolls are in my possession, and I know the location of the Summers family’s sanctuary. If you dare to reconsider, your family will be wiped out by tomorrow. I hope you don’t act rashly. Go back and manage the Summers family properly. Serve the Dernon Seal Alliance. When I need you, don’t disappoint me.”
Gritting his teeth, Oscar glared furiously at Ilias, but he was utterly helpless. Physically confronting Ilias was out of the question.
“I understand,” Oscar sighed reluctantly, then turned and walked away. He feared that if the stalemate continued, Ilias might suddenly detain them, making matters worse.
Following closely behind Oscar, Jared also left. However, as they exited, he exchanged a meaningful glance with Tyler.
Once they left the Henningsen residence, Oscar couldn’t contain his frustration and let out a roar, “Ah!”
He hadn’t anticipated that all his efforts to join the Demon Seal Alliance and elevate the Summers family would end in such humiliation.
Looking at the infuriated Oscar, Jared commented coolly, “Do you think it’s possible to climb higher by relying on someone else’s strength before you have your own power? The Henningsen family merely used you. Now that they have no use for you, they can dispose of you anytime.”
Oscar wore an expression of utter embarrassment, remaining completely silent.
He finally realized how foolish he had been, seeking to advance the Summers family through the power of the Demon Seal Alliance.
As Jared and Oscar left the Henningsen residence, they encountered Jennifer leading a group, ready to charge into Henningsen City.
The delay in their return had raised concerns.
“Mr. Chance, you finally came out. We were planning to rush in and rescue everyone,” Jennifer said excitedly.
“Jared, what happened? Did you meet the head of the Henningsen family?” Catina asked eagerly.
“Yes.” Jared nodded.
“Mr. Chance, is my dad okay? What about my brother?” Jennifer anxiously inquired.
“They’re fine. However, Ilias has no intention of releasing Mr. Tyler. It seems we’ll have to force our way in,” Jared explained helplessly.
If they could manage to free Tyler and Jacques from the Henningsen family’s control first, everything would be easier.
However, attempting a direct assault with Tyler and Jacques still captive would be risky. When Jared left, he gave Tyler a meaningful look, hoping Tyler would understand the unspoken message.
The Summers family was weak. They were already at a disadvantage, even with Jared’s assistance.
If the Henningsen family decided to use Tyler and Jacques as hostages, things would become even more complicated.
“Mr. Chance, give the order. We, the Summers family, are ready to fight to the death. If we can’t rescue Mr. Tyler, there’s no point in us living. We’re not afraid to die. We’ll fight alongside the Henningsen family!” Todd declared with a determined expression.
“Let’s fight! Let’s fight!”
The members of the Summers family raised their arms, determined. Despite the evident power imbalance, not a single member of the Summers family showed any signs of retreat.
