Thereafter, Zordey, his men, and Montane Daemon also went ashore. Some of the cultivators chose to stay on the beach, while others began walking into the dense jungle. This group was hoping to get lucky in their search for magical items.
As most of them were wandering cultivators who didn’t belong to any group specifically, they entered the depths of the island in teams of two to three.
Although some of them started to disappear inexplicably, no one felt alarmed by it, for they barely knew each other.
In fact, they even suspected that someone was messing around in an effort to scare them so whoever it was could take the island’s magical items for themselves..
Meanwhile, Jared and his companions had arrived deep inside the island, which was a dark place due to the towering trees blocking off the sunlight.
“Mr. Chance, look!” Cloud yelled abruptly. Stopping in their tracks, Jared and the others trailed their gaze along the trajectory of Cloud’s finger. They were greeted by the sight of an altar formed from a bunch of rocks piled together.
“Why is there an altar here? From its battered condition, we can tell that someone must have come here a long time ago,” Renault commented as he stared at the altar.
“Come, let’s take a closer look. Be careful, everyone!” Jared proceeded to lead the group toward the altar, which was a few meters tall and covered in shrubs.
As it was built by piling some rocks together, it appeared incredibly simple. Surrounding the altar was a path that gave one access to the top.
Nonetheless, Jared and his companions could leap straight up, as it was only a few meters tall. Just as Cloud was about to do so, Jared stopped him.
“Don’t be reckless. Let’s take the stairs up first.”
It would be careless of Jared to allow Cloud to jump up there because he wasn’t sure if there were any traps or dangers lurking at the top.
“This altar looks really strange. Who in the world would build one on a far-flung island such as this?” Renault remarked with narrowed eyes and a quizzical look on his face. Despite the altar being barebones, its existence on the island was still puzzling.
“We’ll ascend it one by one, and I’ll be the first to do so. All of you can come up once I make sure it’s safe. On top of that, don’t forget to tread on the very steps I take.”
Jared, too, was baffled by the existence of the altar on this uninhabited island.
“Mr. Chance, you shouldn’t be taking such risks. I’ll send one of my disciples instead.” Holding Jared back, Renault instructed one of his men, “You, go up there. Watch yourself while doing so.”
“Understood!” The disciple began to ascend the steps carefully. While everyone held their breath, ready to react to any eventualities, the disciple proceeded forward fearfully.
Nevertheless, nothing happened even as he finally reached the top of the altar.
“What’s up there?” Renault asked the disciple. However, the disciple simply stared blankly at the center of the altar. It was as if he was dumbfounded by a shocking sight
Without a moment’s hesitation, Jared ran up the steps while Renault and Cloud followed closely behind with the other disciples.
No sooner had Jared stepped foot on the altar than he felt the appearance of an aura all around him. The supposedly empty forest, which was devoid of life a moment ago, was suddenly brimming with demon beast aura.
The turn of events baffled Jared, for he had no idea where the aura came from. There were no demon beasts in sight in the surroundings at all. When everyone arrived at the top, they were similarly left stunned.
One by one, their expressions froze as they stared at the center of the altar. Never in their wildest dreams had they expected to find something like that there.
