Upon hearing Percy’s words, the elderly villager lowered his head and fell silent. Everyone had turned equally dispirited, and the tension in the air became palpable.
Emily was worried about her injuries too. She initially wanted to earn more money through hunting to treat her grandmother’s eyes, and yet, now, not only did she not have the money for the treatment, but she was even hurt herself.
“Emily, is it also tough for you all to treat external wounds?” Jared asked in confoundment. After all, to his knowledge, simple medicinal herbs could be used to treat external wounds. No expensive medicinal herbs were needed, so treatment should be something readily accessible.
“Of course it’s tough. If we’re hurt, we’ll need to travel to a town hundreds of kilometers away from our village to visit an alchemist, and the alchemists charge a lot,” Emily explained to Jared.
At that, Jared decided to head up the mountains to gather some medicinal herbs to treat the villagers. Although Jared had yet to make a full recovery and could not refine high- quality pills yet, creating simple pills for the external wounds they sustained was something he could manage.
“Ali, take them back first. I’m going to gather some herbs on this mountain to treat your wounds, Jared said to Ali, Ali blinked at Jared in surprise. “You’re going to gather herbs? Are you an alchemist?”
The others turned to look at Jared in equal shock, waiting for the man to respond. “I’ve only learned a little alchemy, and I wouldn’t call myself an alchemist, but treating your wounds won’t be an issue,” Jared nonchalantly answered.
Ali’s eyes lit up as he lurched forward to grab Jared’s hand. “A-Are you serious? You’re not lying to me, right?” Jared was taken aback by Ali’s excited demeanor. “I’m not. Why should I lie to you about something like this?”
“This is great news!”
In his ecstasy, Ali hugged Jared. The other people also merrily surrounded Jared, gazing at him with reverence in their eyes. Even Percy had taken a step forward to look at Jared in disbelief. “Jared, you’re an alchemist? I thought you were already very strong, but I never expected you’d also be an alchemist!”
Jared was still perplexed by their reactions. He could not wrap his head around why they were so excited to hear that he was an alchemist. Aren’t I just treating their injuries? Why are they so excited, as if I’ve saved their lives?
“Jared, I never expected you to be an alchemist! Did you know that the role of an alchemist is a role that we greatly admire and wish to become?” “Becoming an alchemist means succeeding in life. Moreover, there hasn’t been a single alchemist in Rock Village for thousands of years!*
“This is wonderful news indeed! We no longer need to head to town if we’re sick or injured. We won’t need to suffer from bullying anymore, and my grandmother’s eyes can be cured! Jared, could you please treat my grandma’s eyes?” Emily enthusiastically asked.
However, Jared shook his head. He had studied the elderly woman’s eyes previously and found out that she had been blind for many years. Furthermore, it seemed like she had been blinded by poison. That was something Jared could not cure.
Still, there were no absolutes in this world. If they found a miraculous herb, perhaps the elderly woman might regain her sight. Thus, Jared regretfully told Emily, “I can’t treat your grandma’s eyes with my current capability.”
A wave of disappointment struck Emily when she heard his reply, and she lowered her head. “Emily, don’t give up just yet. Although Jared can’t cure your grandma’s eyes, we can hire Dr. Weiss to treat your grandma’s eyes after we sell the Demon Wolves,” Ali consoled.
