Jared scoffed at his claims and argued, “Stop tooting your own horn. You’re just a pile of bones after someone dumped your body in the ocean.” The old man sputtered furiously, “Y-You insolent child! You have no foresight at all. I wouldn’t have bothered helping you if not for your Dragon Vein.”
“If you know about my Dragon Vein, do you know who I am? Who’s my father?” asked Jared. He hoped to get news about his father from the mysterious old man. To his dismay, Ranzoph replied, “It’s good
enough that I can see your Dragon Vein. Why would I know about your father? If I can be revived, I can perhaps use my powers to determine your father’s identity.”
Jared immediately wrote the elderly man off as a clueless person, and he turned his focus to running faster. He had just passed the foothills when two strangers blocked his path. Based on their attire, Jared surmised that they were members of a sect from the hidden realm.
Beyond grudges against Flying Star Sect and Stormwind Sect, he had no interactions or known grievances with other sects. Hence, when Jared spotted the two sect members, hel thought he could walk around them and continue on his way.
The two men stretched out their hands and blocked Jared. The shorter of the two, a man named Ronan, stared at Jared excitedly and muttered, “Lady luck is smiling on us today.” Jared noticed Ronan’s nefarious gaze and frowned. He demanded, “Who are you? I don’t believe there is bad blood between us.”
“That’s not important. Yes, we’re not enemies, but Flying Star Sect has offered three years of resources for your head, so don’t even dream of escaping! Now, we can end your life painlessly if you surrender. If you insist on being stubborn, don’t fault us for playing rough.”
Ronan slowly unsheathed his long sword and stared at Jared greedily as if the latter were a treasure. Jared was stunned and instinctively backed away. He never imagined Wrey would offer such a lucrative reward for his life.
It seems Matthew could not stop them. Luminous Sect can’t afford to antagonize all the sects in the hidden realm, after all!
Jared stared at his two assailants. They were Fifth Level Martial Arts Gods who were hardly worth a second glance if Jared’s own abilities had not been repressed. Sadly, that was not the case, and Jared was in no shape to defeat the two men.
He mulled through his options and concluded that using the Dragonslayer Sword was his best bet. The sword possessed its own sword spirit and could attack autonomously without Jared’s control.
That was enough to fight one attacker, but it still fell short of overcoming two Fifth Level Martial Arts Gods. “If only Blazing Tiger were here…”
Jared began missing Blazing Tiger. If it was still alive, I wouldn’t feel this scared going against those two men. His lack of action spurred Ronan into waving his sword. The motion unleashed a bright ray that beelined for Jared at a startling speed. Jared gritted his teeth and mustered every bit of his spiritual energy to protect his body.
Bang! The strike landed on Jared’s body and sent him flying. A bloody wound quickly appeared across his body. “His body is pretty strong. That strike only left him with a wound,” Ronan uttered in wonder.
His taller companion, Grant, whipped out his own sword and said, “Let’s hope his neck isn’t as hardy. We’ll just need to put in a few extra slashes.”
As their words hung in the air, the two men stalked toward Jared with matching, arrogant smirks on their faces.
