However, Kayden soon realized he was still alive and yet to be swallowed by the demon beast moments later. When he opened his eyes again, he saw his father, Lamar, shielding him while the flying demon beast was reduced to a pile of minced meat.
“Dad!” Joy filled Kayden’s eyes. “W-Why are you here?” “You would’ve become food for the demon beast if I didn’t show up!” Lamar sneered before charging toward the rest of the flying demon beasts.
Meanwhile, Chester, Brad, and their men faced the demon beasts head-on as soon as they arrived. They charged ahead without hesitation, and the hundreds of people who joined the battle tilted the balance of victory in the humans’ favor. In response, the demon beasts retreated and dwindled in numbers.
In the end, the beasts turned and fled, but the humans decided against chasing after them. That was because it was highly plausible for high-level demon beasts to be lurking in the mountain since humans had never once hunted demon beasts in this mountain. The consequences would be dire if they happened to run into the king of the mountain. None of them would be able to escape alive if that happened. Besides, their only goal was to rescue their companions, so there wasn’t a need to exterminate the demon beasts once that goal was achieved.
Many people began taking the beast cores from the carcasses of demon beasts scattered across the ground. Chester, on the other hand, asked Evangeline and Zain, “Have you seen Mr. Chance?”
“Dad, Mr. Chance went chasing after the Blazing Tiger just now, and he’s nowhere to be seen,” Evangeline replied. Chester furrowed his brows. “What? He went after the Blazing Tiger?”
The Blazing Tiger is way too powerful for Mr. Chance to handle! Zain bobbed his head too. “Yep. He wanted to slay the Blazing Tiger to put and end to the demon beasts’ attacks.”
Hearing this, Chester panicked. He knew searching for someone in this massive mountain would be akin to looking for a needle in a haystack, but no matter how difficult it could be, he would never give up, for the relationship between Jared and the Gunderson family was an extraordinary one.
“Attention to all members of the Gunderson family! The search for Mr. Chance is on! We must bring him back safely and soundly no matter what!” Chester yelled at the Gundersons.
“Yes, sir!” The Gundersons gave up on the beast cores and created a formation as they prepared to search for Jared.
Wayne stopped Chester at that moment. “Don’t be rash, Chester. No humans have ever stepped foot into the Demon Beast Mountain for many years! We don’t know what danger lies within. It’d be dangerous for you and your men to venture deep into the mountains to search for Mr. Chance just like that!”
“I don’t care! I have to look for him no matter how risky it is! I can’t leave him here alone!” replied Chester with determination. “Chester, think about it. This mountain is huge!
How are you going to search for him? All of your will die in there before you even find him!” Wayne got into Chester’s way, refusing to let him search for Jared.
In fact, Chester was aware that Wayne was right. It was indeed impossible for them to search for Jared on this huge mountain with limited manpower. Besides, the dangers that lurked within were far too grave for them to handle.
Then again, as a member of the Dragon Sect, Chester wouldn’t be able to forgive himself if he didn’t even make the effort to search for Jared.
“Dad, why don’t I wait for Mr. Chance at the foot of the mountain with some men? Maybe he will show up later,” Evangeline suggested.
There wasn’t a solution better than that, so Chester had no choice but to agree. He allowed Evangeline to stay back with some men at the foot of the mountain while the rest of the group left the demon beast secret realm one after another.
In the meantime, Jared had no idea what was happening on the other side as he pursued the Blazing Tiger with undivided attention. I must capture this b*stard and kill it! It pisses me off!
