At that moment, Tommy asked curiously, “Mr. Chance, since Lizbeth and you are going to Dragon Island, why aren’t you traveling together?”
“Erm…” Jared had no idea how to answer.
“I came by myself. Hence, Jared wasn’t even aware of it.” Lizbeth interrupted.
“That’s right, I wasn’t aware that she was going to Dragon Island too.” Jared nodded at once.
After sweeping his gaze around, William noticed that Josephine wasn’t anywhere to be seen. Hence, he asked, “Jared, where’s Josephine? Aren’t you going there with her?”
Briefly stunned, Jared was at a loss as to how he should explain to William. In the end, he decided to lie. “Josephine is busy, so she didn’t join us. I’m going there together with my friends.”
Jared pointed to Skylar and Karl behind him.
Coming forward with a slight smile, Skylar greeted Walter and William, “Hello, I’m Jared’s friend, Skylar Norton.”
“Hello!” Walter and William returned his greeting.
After exchanging pleasantries, they returned to the ship’s cabin. Nevertheless, Walter and William were particularly excited to have run into Lizbeth and Jared.
Subsequently, both men chatted happily with Jared in one of the rooms. As Jared had been busy recently and seldom returned to Horington, the two had missed him a lot.
“Jared, that friend of yours, Skylar, looks to be a fine young man. Does he come from a prominent family? He exudes a distinguished vibe that is rare among the youth in Horington,” William asked.
“Mmm-hmm, he is a member of the Norton family of Jadeborough. Even though he seems congenial, he isn’t someone to be trifled with. Therefore, Mr. Sullivan, Mr. Grange, it’s better if both of you keep your distance from him,” Jared advised the two.
Although both of them were surprised by Jared’s words, they still nodded in acknowledgment.
After chatting a little more, Jared pulled Lizbeth aside.
“Lizbeth, didn’t I tell you not to come?” Jared questioned with a grim look on his face.
Sensing Jared’s anger, she lowered her head and explained meekly, “I-I was worried that you would be in danger.”
“Listen to me, once we arrive at Dragon Island, you should lead Mr. Grange and the others away from me. By following me, not only will you be of no help but will also get in my way,” Jared instructed sternly.
He was cognizant that Skylar didn’t bring him to Dragon Island with good intentions. If the situation went sideways, he still had the ability to escape.
However, the sudden appearance of Walter and William complicated matters for him.
In the event Skylar took anyone of them as a hostage to threaten him, he could not just sit idly by.
Nodding in acknowledgment, Lizbeth began to realize the folly of her actions.
Meanwhile, inside another room nearby, Skylar was in a delightful mood.
“Hahaha, the heavens are smiling upon me! I didn’t expect to run into those who are close to Jared. At the rate this is going, he will have to submit to us obediently.”
Skylar took a gentle sip of red wine.
“Mr. Norton, from those among the group, I can see that the girl is the one whom Jared holds the dearest. As long as we capture her, he will have to obey everything we say!” Karl, Baron of the Northwest, remarked.
“That’s right. I realize it too. I’m surprised that Jared is such a player to have women swooning over him wherever he goes.”
As a jealous glint flashed in his eye, Skylar added, “Now that we have brought Jared to Dragon Island, are you confident of luring the Flame Dragon out with him?”
